PRESS RELEASE - Livingston Montana – May 18th. 2010
Montana Y&G Multimedia is happy to announce our newest project. “Big Sky On A fly”. “Big Sky On A fly” is a new television show airing on Versus network, starting January, 2011.
“Big Sky On A fly” is 13 weekly episodes about fly fishing in Montana. It is a journey of learning to fish, enjoying the natural beauty of Montana and exciting fly-fishing action. Montana enjoys the status of the top fly fishing destination in the country, with more fish per mile and more “Gold Ribbon” trout waters then any other state in the union.
“Big Sky On A fly” is also an entertaining look at the realities of fly fishing in Montana. Each episode features: a specific location, a lodging operator in that location, a local fly shop, a local guide, the gear necessary for the episode with a feature highlighting a specific piece of gear and its manufacturer, the flies used and where to buy them, and a conservation section dealing with some of the efforts underway to protect and enhance the fishing in Montana. There is also a spotlight piece, on a specific species of fish caught here in Montana.
Our viewers will be joining our young host Lacey Hart, while she learns to fish and the adventures she has in that pursuit. Lacey and our viewers will also learn what Montana has to offer fly fishermen and their families who visit the Treasure state.
Season one, Episode one, of “Big Sky On A fly” will start with winter fishing at the famed Nelson’s spring creek in Paradise Valley, Montana. Lacey learned about spring creek fly casting from noted Author John Mingo and Paradise Valley guide Lee Kinsie. Then it’s off to “Montana Troutfitters“to pick out just the right fly patterns for the conditions. Later in the episode’s Lacey will visit Yellowstone Valley Lodge and will be dining on some Bison filet and Scallops at the recently remodeled Paradise Valley Grill. While fishing the spring creek Lacey catches some nice Cut/Bow’s and has a stream side chat with Dave Kumlein the executive Director of Trout Unlimited Whirling Disease Foundation. We then look at the new Guide Model Boots from Korkers and finish the episode with Lacey landing a nice 18 inch Trout.
In the coming episodes we are fishing the lower Madison River, and then the Big Hole River for Arctic grayling. “Big Sky On A fly” will then be fishing the high mountain lakes for Yellowstone Cutthroat only to be followed by a kid’s trout derby in Livingston. Additional episodes are being planned for Carp, Smallmouths and Pike all on a Fly. We will end the first season by fishing Cooke City, Montana’s annual fish contest.
Some of the conservation sections under development are about the efforts underway to protect native West slope and Yellowstone cutthroat trout, and the movement away from felt soled waders.
“Big Sky On A fly” is currently filming the first two episodes and is looking for sponsors, fly shops, guides, lodging operators, and manufacturers to feature on the show. Coming episodes will be from all over the great state of Montana.
