AFFTA Moves to Virtual Office

May 05, 2010

When AFFTA decided to relocate the office from Georgia to the Denver metro area, the Board asked former president Gary Berlin to find suitable office space in the Denver or Boulder area.  Berlin found a seemingly quiet 360 square foot office in Louisville, Colorado.  The office was in the basement of a new building, and the other basement dwellers were members of the arts community.  The rent was reasonable, Berlin was able to equip the office with high quality used furniture and the commute for Berlin and office manager Mischa Jones was easy.

For a short period of time, life at the Front Street address was good.  Unfortunately for us, the Director of the Louisville Arts Association received a community grant to expand musical offerings at her center and what started as a quiet office complex has now turned into a musical recreation center with voice, piano, cheer-leading, drum, and step dancing lessons.

At the April board meeting in Washington, DC, AFFTA President Randi Swisher suggested that the AFFTA office relocate or go “virtual.”  After considerable discussion, the Board approved Swisher’s recommendation to create a virtual office rather than continuing with a brick and mortar office.

The change in office will be invisible to AFFTA members and seamless to everyone.  Before July 1, AFFTA will have a new mailing address, but all phone numbers and e-mail addresses will remain the same.

For those of you who may be considering a virtual office situation, this article is one of the better ones Swisher was able to find.  The Case, and the Plan, for the Virtual Company http://www.inc.com/magazine/20100401/the-case-and-the-plan-for-the-virtual-company.html

We’ll keep you posted on our new address and status.
